Response to consultation paper on gambling

12 January, 2007

Glasgow Churches Together has issued a response to a consultative policy statement by Glasgow Licensing Board on gambling.

The response emphasises that the Churches do not wish any Board policy to encourage further gambling or to exacerbate financial difficulties affecting the families and children of people with gambling problems.

It regrets that any moral objections based on Scriptures, traditions and long experience of providing social care for life’s casualties are not considered valid in terms of the consultation.

And it stresses that term use of the term 'vulnerable people' should include families and children affected by people with gambling problems, and not simply refer to people who enter gambling premises.
