Doors Open Day 2003

Several former city churches can be seen during Doors Open days on September 20 and 21, 2003.

Doors Open Day is organised by the Glasgow Building Preservation Trust.

The next Glasgow Churches Doors Open Days will be held on May 8 and 9, 2004, preceded by a conference on May 7 with the theme of 'Use of Church Buildings'.

These events are organised by the Church Buildings Renewal Trust, which can be contacted via Glasgow City Council's development and regeneration services department on 0141 287 8634.

Doors Open Saturday September 20, 2003:

Barony Hall High Street Glasgow G1
Magnificent Victorian Church in Gothic Revival Style now in use as a ceremonial and graduation hall for the University of Strathclyde. Interior with original furnishings, war memorial of 1921 and 1930s stained glass.

Govan Old Parish Church Govan Cross
Early Pointed Gothic style building occupying a site of religious importance since the 5th century. Fascinating early Christian sculpure, including 'hogback' stones and the stunningly restored sarcophagus - Glasgow's earliest work of art. Superb stained glass by Kempe and others.

Ramshorn 98 Ingram Street Glasgow G1
Flexible theatre inserted into nave of old Kirk, for Strathclyde University Drama Centre. Very fine Victorian glass. Tours throughout the day of the graveyard, burial place of 18th century merchants.

St Aloysius College 45 Hill Street Glasgow G3 6RH
