Prayer for the City 2004

Frances McPherson greets a new year with prayer.

Dear Lord, let Glasgow flourish this year...

  • make us a prosperous city, with full employment and access to higher education for all
  • let justice flow like a river and righteousness like an ever flowing stream, may there be peace in our streets and an end to violence and bloodshed, protect our children and let our elderly live without fear
  • may homelessness become a thing of the past
  • banish sectarianism and every form of bigotry from our midst
  • for those who have been left without a country, let them find a welcome in our land
  • bring freedom to the addict and make the sick whole.

By the preaching of your word ... let the truth of the Gospel go forth into every situation that has crushed, defeated, dismayed, destroyed or abandoned people to hopelessness, bringing light into the darkness and healing to our land.

By the praising of your name ... let all who know you exalt you with their lips, honour you with their lives, adore you in their hearts, worship you in all that they do and witness to you in all that they are.

For Glasgow, Lord ... let this year be the year when your kingdom will come and your will be done as it is in heaven

Amen
